Trade union representatives gathered at Australia House in support of Qantas employees who were locked out during the recent industrial dispute with the Australian airline’s management. Actors in Kangaroo costumes staged mock battles with people wearing Alan Joyce (Qantas CEO) masks.

The Philippine Airlines Employees’ Association (PALEA) picketed the Qantas office and Australian embassy in a show of solidarity for the embattled workers of the Australian flag carrier. “We extend the hand of solidarity to our brothers and sisters at Qantas who are for fighting for job security, decent pay and better working conditions. The struggles they are waging mirror the same demands that we are currently fighting for at PAL,” declared Gerry Rivera, PALEA president and vice chair of Partido ng Manggagawa.

Teamsters Join Global Day of Action at Los Angeles, Dallas Airports To Stand With Australia's Qantas Workers (Click to view)

Members of the Teamsters are today joining in a multi-union action at LAX and DFW international airports in Los Angeles and Dallas as part of a day of global solidarity with the tens of thousands of Qantas airline employees who were cruelly locked out by their own employer last month.

Qantas has no interest in cutting a deal with unions and is looking to end the long-running industrial dispute in arbitration, says the Transport Workers Union of Australia (TWU).
